Life is a Precious Gift from God

Life is precious and is a gift from God.

I just read an article about a 30 year old woman who struggled with anorexia for the past 18 years and recently passed away.  Her testimony of grace in her last days are so touching.  Suffering in the world will not end in suffering. Christ has soaked up all our pain and all our suffering on the cross.  In Christ, we have a hope that no one can take away.

Hope that this story can inspire you to live life to the fullest, and that you may spend time knowing your Creator more deeply.

Wisdom of the Cross

Image

This Easter has been extra special for me.

It is not just a time when we bring out the colorful eggs, bunnies, spring outfits, etc.  It is a time to remember love.  Love that gave us new life.

Some may ask, what do you mean new life?  Aren’t I living already?

Well, it depends on what you consider “living”.  You can be walking around in your physical body but have no life inside of you.  Some of you might be feeling empty, lonely, hopeless, meaningless, useless, unloved, etc., and in that sense, you need new life.  In America, there is a saying, “get a life.”  I’ve heard it used in movies and used by teenagers telling others to “get a life.”  In other words, what it is saying is to live a different life.

Are you happy with the life that you live now?

We want to know how to live in the way that can bring us happiness and joy, who doesn’t?  We are all seeking for the wisdom and knowledge that helps us to get by life’s situations and relationships.

What is the greatest wisdom that anyone can have?   It is the wisdom of the cross.  And the cross is LOVE.

The cross of love is indescribable, and unbelievable.  It is the love that sacrifices, humbles, serves and forgives.  It is the love that doesn’t think of oneself, but of the other.  It is the love that forgets what is behind and looks towards what is ahead.  It is the love that perseveres because of faith and hope.  It is the most beautiful love that anyone can imagine.  Do you know that love?

I challenge you to spend time to seek out this kind of love, this kind of wisdom, that can only be found in Jesus Christ.

Life Goes On

More than a decade ago, I enjoyed to listen to a rap song titled “Life Goes On” by Tupac.  The song had a sentimental kind of feeling to it, and you can sense that Tupac longed for something deeper.

The reason why I bring this song up is because, I’m feeling a little nostalgic right now.  On the other side, I am also dreaming of the future.

These days, I’ve been getting sick more often than I would like to.  When Selah catches a cold, I usually always catch it from her.  Something very interesting that I observed is that when children are sick, they still love to run around, play with other kids, and jump and dance and sing and it looks like they’re not sick.  But actually while they’re running around, they’re coughing all over the place, and have snot running down their nose – mommies chasing after them to wipe their nose every 10 minutes.  They always have this enviable burst of energy and they don’t want to miss any moment of life.  They don’t really have responsibilities at this age, except to eat well, sleep well, play well, learn well and receive a lot of love. :)   Children are indeed so pure and lovable!

But since I’m an adult, when I’m sick, I still have so many responsibilities in front of me.  Deep in my heart, I want to serve and love God, family, ministry, colleagues, friends, the world well and diligently.  Yet, there is this guiltiness that creeps in when I am unable to fulfill all my duties.

Do you ever feel that way also?

In Romans, Apostle Paul encourages us that to keep responsibilities well is not the ultimate goal in life.  Of course we want to do things well, and please God and to please people, and to enjoy life at the same time.  But it’s IMPOSSIBLE on my own!  Mankind by our own strength, even at our very best, we fail to fulfill ALL our responsibilities.  Unless you’re a super human!  We can try our best, but we still lack in many ways.

Paul explains about the life that is in law, and the life that is in love.  Many times we do not realize and do not want to admit that we are living a life that is bound by law and responsibilities.  And we judge others based on what they can do or not do.

Life is about love.  Which is the reason behind all that we love.  And for Christians, we remember that it’s about what Christ has done for us, revealing the ultimate love.  He showed us a life that is set free from the stuffy law, and fulfilled by the Gospel.  When we learn to follow Jesus and live by the Gospel, which is love, our hearts can become free and as wide as the ocean.  We can view others with the value that comes not from what they can do, but from what Christ has done – through the eyes of faith.

I’m praying that in this period of Lent, until Easter, that I won’t get stuck in situations and in the law.  But instead, gain the freedom in Christ.  With Christ, life goes on, with clear purpose and love!

Matthew 26:6-13 Love is not a Waste

Jesus Anointed at Bethany

6 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.

8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. 9 “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.”

10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 The poor you will always have with you,[a] but you will not always have me. 12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. 13Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

When you love, you do not calculate.  When you love, it’s illogical and unreasonable to others.  When you love, you sacrifice to see the other happy.  When you love, it is no longer about me.

When you love, it is not a waste.

1 John 4:7 - Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
